SEAT CHARACTERISITCS

The height and seat of a good office chair must be easily adjustable and be set so that the soles of both feet are flat and in complete contact with the floor. The seat pan should allow your weight to be evenly distributed on the seat pan and adjust for forward or back-ward tilt to allow room for posture changes and reduce pressure on the back of your thighs.

backrest-svg

Backrest

The form and size of the backrest should match the back of the user. A backrest can either be separate or combined with the seat. If the backrest is separate from the seat, it must be adjustable. You should also be able to make the adjustments to both its angle and height. The height adjustment provides support for the lumbar portion of your lower back

armrests-svg

Armrests

From an ergonomic standpoint, armrests are great for your posture a they take bodyweight off our shoulders, allowing your arms to loosen up and rest in a relaxed position. This way, you will not feel stiffness or tightness in your shoulder muscles.

Neck and head support

The neck and head support should be adjusted to the height of the neck in order to help relieve the stress on the neck. This must at the very least be height-adjustable. However, in terms of ergonomics, a headrest is not strictly necessary.

Castors

Wheels offer mobility without standing and are great if you want to move over to a colleague’s desk or a printer. Most office chairs have five wheels in total. This is because five wheels in every direction ensure better balance and provide a firm foundation to the chair.

WHAT IS LUMBAR SUPPORT IN OFFICE CHAIRS?

Our spines have a natural curvature which needs constant support. Without this support, our bodies tend to compensate by slouching, which can lead to back pain over time.

Lumbar support in an office chair is built to be pushed against the small of the back. This support fills in the gap between our back, consequently keeping the spine in correct alignment. The placement of the lumbar support is equally as crucial as its inclusion. It should fit right at the natural curve of your back, directly above your belt line. This makes sure your posture is correct and protects you from back pains in the future.

BAD SITTING POSTURE

  • Chronic back, neck, and shoulder pain
  • Foot, knee, hip, and back injuries
  • Headaches
  • Stiffness
  • Fatigue
